Spritz or Spritzer?
I’ve seen both words being used for a co*cktail made with liqueur, sparkling wine and seltzer or soda water.
But is there a difference between a spritz or spritzer.
Some people say that the added “er” means lower alcohol content.
Other sources state that you can call a “Spritz” a co*cktail with the original recipe ratio – 3:2:1, but a “Spritzer” can be any drink made with the same ingredients, but has no official ratio.
You can even mix sparkling wine with sparkling water and call it a Spritzer, but again, there is no need to follow the original ratio.

What is Limoncello?
The short answer – lemon flavored Italian liqueur. Have you ever been to an Italian restaurant and after dinner the waiter (waitress) asked you if you’d like a digestif?
Then they offer several options of herbed liqueurs, cherry, brandy of co*cktails with these?
Digestifs are offered right after dinner with the aim to ease digestion.
Liqueurs, that fall into the digestif category usually contain stomach settling herbs and spices and have a bitter taste.
Limoncello is one of these liqueurs.
With its slightly bitter but sweet and intense citrusy flavor, it reminds me of a lemon candy.
You can serve it in a shot glass, use in dessert recipes or co*cktails like this Easy Limoncello Spritz.
What Prosecco is best to use?
So is Prosecco Champagne?
The answer is that it is sparkling wine, that comes from the Italian region of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia and Champagne can can be only called sparkling wine coming from the Champagne region of France.
What the best Prosecco to use it Spritzer recipes like this one is? I can tell you some brands, but I’m currently in Europe and there are quite a few good quality Prosecco brands I’ve tried so far. Honestly – any Prosecco will work in the recipe.
Check brands like Cinzano, Valdo or Ruffino for Prosecco, that tastes great and sells at a reasonable price.
Sparkling Water – I recommend using natural spring sparkling water if possible, because it just tastes better. If you don’t have access to this, use club soda (soda water).
How to make Limoncello Spritz co*cktail
You may already know the popular spritz ratio is 3:2:1 – 3 parts Prosecco (or sparkling wine that is no too sweet, it is best to use dry sparkling wine).
The combination of a dry sparkling wine, sweet lemon liqueur, ice and sparkling water makes the perfect summer co*cktail.
Ingredients for 1 Limoncello Spritz:
3 oz Prosecco (Dry Sparkling Wine)
2 oz Lemon Liqueur
1 oz Sparkling Water
1 cup of ice
2 lemon slices
How to make:
Fill a glass (I use a wine glass) with ice.
Add the Limoncello.
Top with Prosecco.
Add Sparkling water.
Garnish with lemon slices and mint (optional).
Serve.
